Profile

Colonel Chris Coombs, USAF (Ret), is the president of Dayton Aerospace. He is a seasoned senior executive with over 30 years of leadership and acquisition management experience in the Department of Defense (DOD) and Allied services in procurement, regulations, policies, procedures, logistics, supply chain management (SCM), vendor management, supplier relationship management, quality assurance, forecasting and analysis, strategic planning, and team management. He is an adept strategic planner for the design and development of both hardware and software in the delivery of weapons, combat manned and unmanned aircraft, computer communications, and space systems and is known for his keen ability as a transformational servant leader to groom a workforce to execute with agility and quickly adapt to chaos from dynamic requirements, while meeting multiple customer needs. Colonel Coombs possesses solid knowledge and mastery of defending budgets within the DOD and on Capitol Hill, while implementing cost-effective procurements and source selections and routinely collaborates with senior executives in tailoring acquisition processes to meet rapid acquisition requirements.

Significant Career Accomplishments

  • Directed the KC-46 team through program’s aerial refueling restructure and provided frequent program updates to USAF senior leaders and Capitol Hill Staff Committee members.

  • Architected and guided MQ-9 Reaper through program normalization and defended and won delegation of program from ACAT 1D to ACAT 1C.

  • Served as the director, Program Executive Office (PEO), Acquisition for Weapons with responsibility for all aspects of cost, schedule, and performance data reported to the Chief of Staff of the Air Force (CSAF), the Secretary of the Air Force (SECAF), the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition (SAF/AQ).

  • Led defensive cyber efforts ensuring safe and secure operations of unmanned ground control stations and organized DOD team of experts to design front line defense with application “white listing” ensuring safe ground control station operations.

  • Authored numerous foreign agreements offering the sale of unmanned aircraft to NATO, Germany, United Kingdom, Turkey, and Italy, along with tanker aircraft to the Republic of South Korea and Japan.
