Dr. Dan Millman has over 35 years of experience in engineering, operations, flight test, acquisition, and hypersonic vehicle design and flight testing. He is an international scholar with published papers in computational fluid dynamics, aero-elasticity, stochastic methods, and flight test results. A US Air Force (USAF) Test Pilot School graduate, Dan served as a B-52H pilot, aircraft commander, and instructor pilot. He stood up the Hypersonic Combined Test (HCT) Force at Edwards Air Force Base (AFB) and launched the first X-51A. As a command pilot, Dan logged over 3,600 hours in 35 aircraft types. He is a recognized subject matter expert in the field of hypersonic flight test.
Significant Career Accomplishments
As Chief Technology Officer of Stratolaunch, acted as the final technical authority for one-of-a-kind launch platform and hypersonic testbed; managed business development efforts growing business from zero contracts to over $100M in sales.
Secured various technical patents, including a new guidance system for reentry vehicles using a flush air data system that converts pressures on the nose of the vehicle to air data required for navigation.
Developed a conceptual design of a hypersonic glide body for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
Conceived and received internal funding to stand up a firm-wide cloud-based high-performance platform for computing and algorithm development with physics-based simulation software for Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element Analysis.
Designed a Direct Attitude Control System autopilot for an advanced agile missile concept for the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) Advanced Weapons Branch and developed missile conceptual design methodologies for the AFLCMC Advanced Concepts Branch.
Flew multiple weapons programs at Edwards AFB and Barksdale AFB; planned and implemented the first release of the X-51A Scramjet Engine Demonstrator from a B-52H—the X-51A set a world record for scramjet engine performance.
Stood up the Hypersonic CTF; programs included X-37A, X-37B, X-51A, and Blackswift.
