Profile

Mr. Juan Satterfield has nearly 40 years of experience serving in various capacities in the US Air Force (USAF) engineering career field across the Department of Defense (DOD) acquisition life cycle. He has significant experience providing technical leadership in design, development, production, and sustainment program execution in areas essential to weapon system acquisition for a broad range of manned and unmanned aircraft systems including MQ-9A, RQ-4A, C-17, F-15 Short Takeoff/Landing, F-22, YF-22, and YF-23. He also has expertise and experience executing MIL-HDBK-516C airworthiness certification and risk acceptance efforts. Juan has successfully executed challenging technical investigation and risk management of development and sustainment issues for air vehicles, aircraft subsystems, flight controls, power systems, engines, software, flight tests, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC).

Significant Career Accomplishments

  • Responsible for a $6B development, production, sustainment, systems integration, and airworthiness effort for fleet of USAF MQ-9A, ground control stations, communications infrastructure, and support equipment in support of 24/7 operations for Air Combat Command (ACC), Air Force Special Operations (AFSOC), and Air National Guard (ANG).

  • Former Global Hawk technical advisor in the areas of avionics, flight systems, systems engineering, and configuration management with oversight responsibility on all programmatic efforts providing on call 24/7 aircraft system depot level technical assistance to deployed locations.

  • Led the Global Hawk air vehicle engineering technical team through development, production, and sustainment activities and provided 24/7 support to overseas contingency operations.

  • Led tiger team investigating Global Hawk engine shut-downs during flight and recommended corrective actions to return fleet to operations; developed fuel nozzle refurbishment and cleaning in lieu of disposal resulting in $104M cost avoidance.

  • Led integrated product team (IPT) responsible for the F117 engine sustainment program; managed all commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) production engine deliveries and spares in support of engine fleet management.

  • Handpicked as technical logistic center liaison to provide engineering support and program direction in the development of the Comprehensive Engine Health Trending and Diagnostics System (CETADS).
