Lieutenant General Robert McMurry, USAF (Ret) is a seasoned executive with over 35 years of experience leading large, complex organizations—culminating in total life cycle responsibility for all USAF aircraft, engine, munition, electronic, computer, network, cyber and agile combat support systems. He has broad experience in development, procurement, testing, and sustainment of space and conventional weapon systems having served in a variety of senior leadership positions including interim Commander, Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC), with responsibility for managing installation and mission support, development, test and evaluation (T&E), and life cycle management and sustainment for all major USAF weapon systems. As Commander, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), General McMurry oversaw a geographically separated organization of 26,000 military and government civilians at 77 geographic locations with responsibility for total life cycle management of all aircraft, engines, munitions, and electronic systems. He is a former Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Commander, Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) Vice Commander, Deputy Program Executive Officer (PEO) for Space, and PEO for Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO). He has significant expertise in foreign military sales (FMS), source selection, and laboratory planning and execution of the USAF’s entire basic and applied research and advanced technology.

Significant Career Accomplishments

  • As both Commander, AFLCMC and interim Commander, AFMC, directed planning and execution of 85,000+ personnel managing over $60B annually for critical warfighter support, leading-edge science and technology, cradle-to-grave life cycle weapon systems management, development, T&E, world-class depot maintenance, and supply chain management.

  • As PEO, Rapid Sustainment Office (RSO), brought new technology sustainment programs from 2 identified projects to over 70 projects in 15 months. Created ties between USAF Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR), venture capital, and USAF sustainment. Planned and executed USAF Advanced Manufacturing Olympics.

  • Developed, promulgated, and integrated policy and processes for ten distinct technology AFRL directorates with almost 10,000 people across 60+ locations. Coordinated USAF Major Command technology demands and transformed them into laboratory direction with financial support. Worked with the USAF Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) to routinely monitor and evaluate AFRL scientific programs and their progress.

  • As Vice Commander and Deputy PEO for Space Programs, coordinated six major program portfolios to achieve USAF space acquisition goals. Drove resource prioritization and personnel development for workforce of ~5,000 in multiple work locations. Reworked USAF launch services to include new providers and increased options with reduced costs.
